This week I started out by helping a BHS student who was having trouble starting their Ipad after they updated to iOS 9. I learned through this experience that IOS 9 has some complications and that some apps even require the user to update IOS 9 or else it will not work correctly. Ms. Sheffer then assigned me to make an Edtech Review on “Book Creator” which will go on by blog. This will show students the exact steps on how to use “Book Creator” because I even took screenshots to show the step by step process. Wednesday Mrs.Sheffer was out and I answered a few phone calls that came to the Help Desk. I also helped out the librarian with downloading the app "Toner Music" and showed students how to get it for free on their IPad. This knowledge of learning this process the week before has allowed me to help out many students who have needed to download apps for classes. Thursday I tried something new and used Google Glasses to make a screencast. I found it tough to make a good screencast because of my head moving while I talked. This made the video keep moving which would be tough for the viewer to stay concentrated on the topic of how to use Book Creator. Although I say this, I did like the idea of the viewer having basically the view that I have from my Google Glasses. On Friday I attempted to make the screencast using the IPad, but having it being recorded through AirPlay on the Mac. I learned that when Mrs. Sheffer says, "just hit the stop recording button at the top of the screen when you're done", do not proceed to hit the "record button" at the bottom of the screen when she leaves the room. This happened to create two recordings, one of which did not record my voice, and the other which continued to record me long after I was done with the screencast...rookie move. Long story short, I now know to use the screencasting the right way and will implement these things when I use it next week to make a "GoogleKeep vs. Notes" screencast. I had to download XCODE software on my Mac so that I could make the BHS Help Desk app. The XCODE software is very high tech and is going to take some getting used too. I found a mini class called codewithchris which is a set of in depth tutorials on how to use XCODE. So far it has helped me tremendously in the little bit of time that I have been using it.
Would a BHS Help Desk app help you?
I decided earlier this week that for my ILE (Individual Learning Endeavor) that I am going to create the first ever BHS Help Desk app. The app will not only give updates about the Help Desk but will also help students in general with the daily bell schedule. I plan to make a page specifically for what day it is so that students can simply look at their BHS Help Desk app and figure out within seconds the bell schedule. No more confusion. No more problems. The app will feature the same foundation as bhshelpdesk.com and will answer many questions for students technological needs! More updates to come in my ILE page...
