BHS Athletics Website- The Beginning
The BHS athletics website was something that I will never forget doing. I am proud to say that I got the ball rolling for future students to work on the website and to revolutionize BHS students athletic experience. For those of you that do not know, I was approached in the middle of this school year by the Athletic Director, Shaun Hart. Mr. Hart asked me to create a website for BHS athletics because it was something that the school really needed and he knew that I was an athlete with tech skills that was motivated to contribute to the community. The website would make it easier for the community to follow BHS sports and would also make it easier for student athletes to find information.
I have provided a strong platform for a future student to finalize this website and if anything have my website act as a prototype. I think that I found the toughest part was trying to find all the pictures of each sport. I needed to contact so many people to get team pictures. I would recommend to students in the future to gather all of the information you want to put on the website first and then worry about putting it all together. I think that if I started this website first semester than I definitely would have been able to finish by now. One of my favorite things about making the website was adding in the concussion documents. I loved how I was able to simply place them in a document form right on the websites page. I recommend that any future student adding to this website use this tool because it will be easy for the community to access the documents.
Although I did not reach my goal of creating a finalized website because of the packed schedule that senior year brought me, I think that I created a great foundation that will allow for future success based off of what I have done. From doing this project, I learned a valuable lesson, giving back to the community that has given so much to me feels great and I look forward to doing a lot more in the future. Overall, I look forward to seeing the changes over time to the BHS athletics website and I am happy I was able to get this process started! Roll Devils.

Burlington High School Athletics Website
Needs and Opportunities
Burlington High School Athletic Director, Shaun Hart, came to me at the start of term three and proposed the idea of creating a BHS athletics website that would benefit the school's athletic community. As of now, there is no existing athletic website for the high school, so it is a huge need for the school for next year's sports teams. Most high schools have a specific athletics website, so I was extremely excited when I was given this opportunity. I am honored to be able to give back to the Burlington Red Devils community because they have given so much to me over the last four years. I know BHS athletes and parents will greatly appreciate the fact that they have a resource that they can visit to check out schedules and other updates for specific teams. For the fans, there will be no better way to keep up to date on everything Burlington Red Devils!
Target Audience
The audience of the Red Devils website will be the Burlington community. Interest in Burlington High School sports will sky rocket with the production of a website that will document every BHS's teams information. For Burlington High School athletes, it will be a huge help to those looking to register for their sports because it will have specific steps in order to make the process easy. Not only will it have the registration process, but it will also have individual team pages. Each season will have a tab with every team that exists at BHS with all their information. Professional photographer, and former Sports Illustrated worker, Bob Dechiara, will be posting all of his pictures to the "Gallery" part of the website so Burlington High School athletes will have one place to check out all of his amazing pictures! The Burlington community will be able to keep track of their favorite BHS teams with the creation of the website and will no longer have to struggle looking through the town paper for the updates. Overall, the creation of the Red Devils athletic website will be helpful for many years to come and I am extremely excited this is my Individual Learning Endeavor!
Timeline
April 1 Deliverables- Have the structure of the website created and be collecting information on each specific team.
May 1 Deliverables- Have all information gathered and begin finalizing the website.
May 20 Deliverables- Have the website finished and begin marketing the website.
Product
The finished product will be exciting for the whole Burlington sports community and is something that should have been developed a long time ago. The final product will be an organized website that is easy to use and contains all relevant, sports related information. The website it will make people's lives easier when trying to locate information on specific sports team. It will an exciting product for BHS, and again I am happy I was given this opportunity!
Supplies, Resources, and Equipment
The only resource that I need is the Weebly website maker that is a simple, free way to make a great looking website. Once the website is finalized, BHS will need to fund a monthly subscription to make the website active. Aside from those two resources, all I need is the sports information on all the teams and then some pictures from Bob Dechiara and I will be all set to create this product.
Conclusion
In conclusion, I am excited to be creating the first ever Burlington High School Athletics website. Stay tuned for further updates!

January 22nd Semester One ILE Completed
This last first semester of senior has been absolutely surreal. The Help Desk has taught me so many new things that I will constantly utilize in day to day life. One of the most important lessons being to work around problems. At the beginning of the school year Ms. Scheffer approached me with the idea of making a wicked cool Burlington High School mobile application. Just like any other app, students could download the app from the App Store. My goal was to have Burlington High School students have their lunch, bell, and athletic schedules right at the tip of their finger. I did my research and found that the most common program to use for the making an app was "XCODE". I could just see it...students walking the halls having all of the information they needed right on their mobile device and it was all because of me.
Theeeennnn reality set in. I figured out the XCODE program was highly complicated. I watched hours and hours of "Code with Chris" episodes just to try and figure out how to code. It was not as easy as I originally had thought it would be. In four days of watching coding episodes I had made two boxes. A blue and a red box...man I was making progress! Along with the many other things that came with senior year I stepped back for a while on the ILE. What could I do to make this work?
About a month later in early December I went to my teacher Ms. Scheffer and told her my issue. I said that XCODE is highly complicated and I would definitely need more time in order to make the real application for Burlington High School students. We brainstormed together and she told me of the website called, "Como" that she had used before to create a fun mobile app. I researched Como and found that it would be a much simpler way to create the BHS app that I wanted. I then started my Burlington High School app on Como. Realizing that this was a much simpler way to go about making it. Creating tabs and adding backgrounds was so much easier and I really started to get creative with the app. I was able to add mini pictures for each tab depending on its title. I downloaded each PDF for every schedule that students may need and displayed them in the correct tabs. Social Media was even an option that could be put on the app. I simply added the users that I wanted and all their tweets would show up on the newsfeed in the app. Pretty cool! I decided to put Mr. Sullivan, Burlington Public Schools, and the Burlington High School Help Desk Twitter accounts on the app. I thought this would be a great touch to the app because during snow days people without a twitter could keep up to date with all the updates on school,

Next I found that putting a map of where the high school was could also be helpful. For people trying to find their way to BHS they could simply click the blue right tab and click the "DIrections to here" button. I thought this would be very helpful and the most simple way possible for people to get the fastst directions to Burlington High School. |
I decided to add a "Contact us" section to the Burlington High School app. I figured this would be great for the guests that visit Burlington High School and for the people that are planning to come for their first time. They can simply call the main office to the secretaries for any questions they may have. It also could work for any parents on their way to work and need to call in to say their child is going to be late. Instead of having to search the internet they would download my app and have Burlington High School's number on the tips of their fingers. |
The "Bell Schedule" and "Lunch Schedule" tabs of the Burlington High School app are my favorite. It provides students with the fast and efficient essentials that they need to figure out some helpful things. Having the Bell Schedule lets them figure out when class begins and ends which the clock watchers at Burlington High School would greatly appreciate. This is because they will have the schedule two seconds away from their knowledge and they will always know when class ends. The lunch schedule will absolutely be utilized by students at the high school. I hear conversations all the time by students asking what is for lunch that particular day and now they won't have to waste their breath. Students will have that lunch schedule right in front of them with the touch of a few buttons.
Overall the backup plan worked like a charm. Although it costs money to make the apps link live, it is certainly a great prototype to future coding apps and what the Burlington High School application should look like.

ILE Update September 30th
ILE is the twenty percent of our time in BHS Help Desk where we get to work on our own little project that we are entirely creating ourselves. So far I have decided that I am going to make a Burlington High School Help Desk app. To do this I to have the program "XCODE". Both of which I have and I started looking into the XCODE program today. It is going to take a while to get used too and if I could compare it to another thing that I have no clue how to do, it would be flying a plane. LOTS of buttons. LOTS to learn.
